Everything you may be wondering about Effortless Meditation - the ancient meditation technique that will quit literally transform your life!
What is Effortless Meditation?
Let’s begin by first establishing what meditation is.
Meditation is a process that we engage our minds in.
Effortless Meditation is therefore an effortless process that we engage our minds in.
What do I mean by effortless? Exactly as the name suggests.. zero effort and zero concentration. Effortless Meditation is a highly effective, powerful, potent and enjoyable meditation technique. It’s not anything new, this technique is rather ancient, stemming from India/Himalayan’s.
Effortless Meditation goes against the grain of society - which falsely claims.“The harder you work, the more you receive”. Effortless meditation is a total surrendering that says… “The more you let go and allow, the more you receive”.
To hear that meditation can be ‘Effortless’ may seem strange and counterproductive to some. Many people believe that it will be more effective the ‘harder’ we try. But the opposite is true for meditation. Meditation is about allowing the mind to NATURALLY relax (without forcing it) and the harder we ‘try’ the more tense we become - which defeats the whole purpose of meditation.
Why learn the Effortless Meditation Technique ?
Unlike other forms of meditation, the Effortless Technique is not to think of nothing, it is not to still your mind. The intention of Effortless Meditation is to rather allow your nervous system to de-excite in its’ own way. It is in the surrendering that the real magic happens.
Most other meditation techniques require you to TRY to still your mind, and TRY to stop your thoughts. This leaves many practitioners feeling frustrated and like they have failed. The Effortless Meditation Technique actually allows you to go beyond your thoughts, rather than getting stuck in trying to stop them. Rather than forcing ourselves to be present, we are actually inviting presence in ( and if it actually comes then that’s a bonus).
So what actually is the Effortless Meditation Technique?
This technique is 100% best learnt through live instruction, from an experienced teacher & coach, rather than in written form. However I will briefly explain the technique so you have a general idea.
In Effortless Meditation, we begin with an anchor. An anchor is something we are subtly placing our awareness on for the duration of the meditation session. To be honest, it doesn’t really matter what our anchor is - our anchor could be a mantra, our breath, a sound, a sensation within the body etc.
WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT IS HOW WE USE THE ANCHOR - not the anchor itself.
The anchor that I use in my own meditation practice, and the way I teach others, is using a mantra. This is very similar to TM meditation. We place our awareness on our anchor in a very easy, lazy and effortless way.
Often in Effortless Meditation, there will be thoughts happening alongside your anchor/mantra and this is 100% perfectly normal and it probably means you are meditating effortlessly. We don’t try to stop the thoughts when they come in, we simply allow them to be there - with a very very subtle preference for our anchor.
Science and research tells us that using our anchor in an effortless way, creates magical things within the body. Meditating with an anchor and using our anchor in an effortless way creates VERY different brainwaves compared to meditating with a high focus and concentration. The science behind effortless meditation is ASTOUNDING to say the least.
What is the science behind Effortless Meditation?
Where to even begin! There are over 600 studies done on effortless forms of meditation alone.. and the science is profound to say the least. I dive much deeper into the science in my Learn How to Meditate Course.

During Effortless Meditation, we begin to experience Alpha 1, Theta and Delta Brainwaves within the body - ALL AT THE SAME TIME.
During Effortless Meditation, our brain is highly connected and synchronized.
We have direct access to our subconscious while simultaneously being awake and conscious - meaning we are in a deep state where it is possible to re-wire our brain, changing patterns/beliefs that no longer serve us.

How long should I practice Effortless Meditation to see results in my life?
Consistency is key here.
When I teach my students the Effortless Meditation Technique, I really encourage them to meditate at least twice a day for 20 minutes each. There is some science behind these numbers which is beyond the scope of this blog post, but essentially this seems to be the magic number for meditation. Showing up every day is key to seeing real life tangible changes in your day-to-day life.
